There are now more than 1500 to take on the challenge of the 42,195km of Blaye Wine Marathon every year. An atypical race in the heart of the vineyard, which since 2004 has attracted athletes from all over the world in search of a unique experience. Among them, an irreducible (and now famous) Blayaise, who won the race 9 times (03:12:16 in 2019). Christelle Gabrielle, multiple female marathon winner, tells us why this marathon is close to her heart...

“Since my childhood, I have loved running and pushing myself. For an athlete, this marathon is a real joy, because the course is both superb, friendly, but also terribly challenging. You need to be well trained to take on this challenge.

But what a great adventure... I did around twenty other marathons, but none had my flavor. Running in lands that we have walked on since childhood is obviously special. During the race, I pass my house, my baker's, my family encourages me.

All along the route, we pass through villages carried by applause. The activities add to the conviviality: I like to rediscover these terroirs that I love in a different way, with the pleasure of visiting castles. A race in such a beautiful vineyard is incredible!

Memories, I have accumulated over 10 years. the fervor of my first arrival on the red carpet in the Citadel, my friends following me by bike, long conversations between runners in several languages to support each other... Also, the kindness of the organization. From picking up your bib to the meal after the race, everything is done to make you feel good. »
