On the Arts Trail

This collective adventure has brought together for more than 10 years the Communities of Royan Atlantique Agglomeration, the Communes of Haute-Saintonge (since 2016) and the Estuaire.

Arts trail

Itinerary along the estuary where works of contemporary art are displayed.

Driven by two common objectives: integrate art into natural heritage, and create unusual tourist itineraries. From September to November, around fifteen works are displayed in must-see sites but also little-known gems of the region. Opportunity to discover sumptuous landscapes and charming villages, as well as artists carefully selected by each partner.

“Urban art can be a fantastic way to take a new look at heritage”

On the Gironde side, a monumental work takes place each year in Terres d'Oiseaux: Virginie Transon in 2020, LLOEIL in 2021... but also in the surrounding municipalities (ROUGE and PEC in Braud and Saint Louis,...).

Arts and conversations – Artists from here and elsewhere

Launched in 2021 by the association Blaye Villa des Arts at the Villa Rose, this exhibition is anything but traditional… and that’s its charm!

The objective is to take art out of foundations and museums and integrate it into everyday life. Many people are still convinced that more conventional places of culture are not made for them, this preconceived idea puts barriers where there should not be any. The Villa Rose can be the first step taken towards the world of visual arts which speaks to affect, to emotions, and therefore to everyone.

Around ten artists exhibit nearly 150 works in the Villa Rose, a Blayaise house, each with a room from the house assigned. In “conversation” with another painter, sculptor or visual artist, to forge links between disciplines. Some are confirmed, others are under construction, and local talents rub shoulders with creators from elsewhere to begin a real regional synergy. The public is invited to talk with them in the garden or as they wander around.

In the citadel of Blaye

alley of the arts

With " The Alley of the Arts », the City of Blaye offers temporary exhibitions to enhance your visit to the famous site listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008. This project also forms the link between the “lower town” and the Poudrière exhibition hall, with art as a common thread. Since June 2021, 8 large totems in the shape of barge sails have been installed on Allée de la Poudrière to host a first photo exhibition. Changes of artists are frequent, which gives the opportunity to return several times a year to discover the new exhibitions. Info: free access – Allée de la Poudrière.

Performing arts: Show in front!

Live performance occupies a great place in BBTE’s territory. Vibrant proof that a rich cultural program can be offered well beyond the major cities! Here are our favorites…

Clap at the Fairgrounds – Saint André de Cubzac

Taking its name from the large market square of Saint-André de Cubzac where encounters take place throughout the seasons, the cultural and artistic project of the Champ de Foire is supported by the CLAP association and is intended to be a true territorial project. Circus, dance, theater, music: eclecticism is required, under the artistic direction of Thibaud Keller.

In the eponymous village hall or outside the walls in Bourg, Saint Trojan, Laruscade or even Pugnac, it is about supporting local talents, offering a demanding cultural season to residents, but also breaking down the barriers between culture by encouraging participatory projects but also school mediation. Among the highlights of Clap, the project Péripé’Cirque in February-March has become in almost 10 years a reference in the track arts.

A 360° experience in Plassac

Visitors to Plassac now have the opportunity to discover the ancient version of mosaic, at the Gallo-Roman Villa, and the modern version, at Emilie Baudrais, and along the streets. Because very quickly, the activity of this “color collector” intrigues. She organized her first internships, quickly supported by European institutions and funds, allowing budding artists to leave their mark in the village. His students create street and house signs, then two monumental works on the port (a boat and a frame). “I was initially worried that the interns would be reluctant to create something they wouldn't take home. But on the contrary, I believe that the idea of creating a real work of art, seen and admired by the public, motivates them even more! » Emilie tells us.

Projects well anchored in this territory that Emilie Baudrais has never forgotten: in the port, the boat bears the name of all the fish in the Estuary, and the local fauna is present on the contemporary mosaic of the wall of the Villa .

“I try to tell the story of Blayais with poetry… With Terra Aventura (geocaching course to discover heritage while having fun), it provides beautiful, original walks for tourists! ".
