Spring Wine Weekend with Friends

“What are you doing the 2nd weekend of April? We’re going to Blaye Wine Spring, are you coming with us?”

And that's how we booked our Spring Wine Pass and a accommodation in Blaye to enjoy the tastings and weekend activities in complete peace!

On Saturday morning we took possession of our rooms and then we took a tour of the Blaye marketWe bought some local produce to prepare a light lunch before setting off to storm the citadel and meet the winegrowers.

Once in the citadel, we tasted whites and reds from Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux and we talked with the winemakers about their work, their ideas and their new vintages. What a pleasure to be able to talk with the producers! To discover so many different tastes, different textures, colors… Each wine has its own particularities, each winemaker their own personality.

In the evening we chose to dine in a restaurant in Blaye who had prepared a special “Printemps des vins” menu! We had a great time and discovered new wines. All evening we discussed our exchanges with the winemakers and prepared our orders for the next day.

After a good night's sleep, just after breakfast, we went to the ticket office at the foot of the citadel to book our activities for the day: we chose a cruise on the estuary et a guided tour of the citadel through the underground passages.

We went to revisit the castles that we had liked the most and we stocked up on good bottles. Porters were at our disposal to transport everything to the cars: brilliant!

For lunch we took advantage of the many food trucks present at Printemps des Vins and we sat at the tables outside to enjoy the sun. “Come on, come on, let’s get moving! Let’s stop lazing around!”

We went on a tasting cruise on the Gironde estuary. Wow! Magnificent! This time, even if the wine was delicious and the winemaker was fascinating, we were fascinated by the islands and by this gigantic estuary. We had a hard time coming back to dry land…

To end this beautiful weekend in Blaye, we followed the guided tour of the citadel through the underground passages. We better understood why this masterpiece of military architecture, built by Vauban, was classified on the UNESCO World Heritage List and the living conditions of the soldiers inside the fortress at the time of Louis XIV.

We got into our cars with our tasting glass, wine for the cellar and above all a smile. This weekend with friends was about relaxation, sharing and conviviality. “We’ll definitely be back next year with the rest of the gang! Have a safe trip home!”
