Château Peybonhomme-Les-Tours
Legend has it that early in the 13th century a Cathar family (the Bons Hommes) took refuge from persecution on a hill (the pey)
near the Gironde and not far from the Citadel of Blaye, hence the strange name Pey-Bonhommes. In 1895, Peybonhomme was sold
at the bar of the commercial court of Blaye as Première Côtes Premier Cru Bourgeois. Since then, six generations have gone by.
The Peybonhomme tower was built in the 18th century at the same time as the dovecote, which is remarkable for its height and shape.
Visits to the tower and its «marine maps room», with a description of the wine trade on the Gironde estuary. There is a remarkable
view from the top of the tower, overlooking the estuary and the Citadel of Blaye. Then, down to the «heart of the estate» to taste
the wines elaborated by Jean-Luc, Catherine and their daughter, Rachel (5 €).
Open Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to noon and 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. By appointment at weekends.
