You will also learn about the architectural evolution of the fortress and about life in the garrison under King Louis XIV. The one hour guided tour of the Citadel of Blaye via its underground passages will teach you about the history of the Citadel of Blaye, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and give you an understanding of the defence system put in place by the famous architect Sébastien Vauban. The tour explains how the site has evolved over time, the lives of the soldiers during the time of Louis XIV, and what a 17thcentury attack looked like. It takes place outside and underground.
At 5:15 or 6:15 pm, enjoy an introduction to wine tasting at the Carré Vauban wine bar inside the Citadel. Two options:
1. Tasting of three wines (red, rosé and white), either Blaye-Côtes de Bordeaux, Côtes de Bourg or other AOCs. Length: 30 min.
2. 20 minute tour of the Carré Vauban vineyard inside the Citadel, 30 minute game of Wine Cluedo and one tasting glass.
