Musée et villas gallo-romaines de Plassac

Description

Property of the Departmental Council of Gironde, the archaeological site of Plassac, classified as a Historic Monument, conceals the remains of three Gallo-Roman villas erected successively between the XNUMXst and the end of the XNUMXth century, beginning of the XNUMXth century. The architectures of the first two villas were designed in harmony with the estuarine landscape. The last villa received a small spa complex and rooms with apses, decorated with polychrome mosaics.
The museum of the Gallo-Roman villas of Plassac presents the objects found during the excavations of this site and very beautiful wall paintings from Antiquity. He also explains the evolution of the three constructions in a 3D video and the daily life of its inhabitants. You can reach the villas from Blaye with the tourist train.
