Journey beyond ages and borders to the Moulin de Charlot!

Built a long time ago on a rocky outcrop, given to the Templars in 1232, enlarged, abandoned, then renovated by Monsieur and Madame Chatin and taken over by their children, the Moulin de Charlot, formerly Moulin de Peyrat, has stood the test of time! Today it welcomes the whole family for a day of relaxation, fishing activities or for a festive evening on the terrace of the restaurant “Le Moulin de Charlot”!

A haven of peace in the heart of the forest

A journey beyond ages and borders at Moulin de Charlot

Nature refuge

Located in the town of Marcenais in a small haven of peace, crossed by the Saye river and equipped with a pond, the Moulin de Charlot is above all an exceptional place belonging today to the Ottaviani family, owner of the site and the restaurant installed in the old water mill, but with free access!

We come to Moulin de Charlot to relax, enjoy the calm and let ourselves be lulled by the rustling of the leaves and the running of the water.

From March to October, nature walks and activities for all are organized on the site and enhance this little green setting which can be discovered in a friendly, almost family atmosphere. We discover the rich biodiversity of the site.

The fishing pond, at the heart of the site, located in a wetland, welcomes fishing enthusiasts looking for a peaceful, bucolic setting.

A reasoned interview

Beyond the nature activities that bring the Moulin de Charlot to life all year round, what we also welcome is the eco-responsible approach taken by the owners of the site. To preserve this environment steeped in history, we practice sensible pruning here as well as the introduction of meadows!

A restaurant by the water

We eat, we dance, and we toast!

The renovation and transformation of the old water mill, into a family creperie in 1975 for many decades, has now given way to a seasonal restaurant and beer garden. Frédéric Ottaviani, grandson of the Chatin family, has taken over and offers a unique place.

Le Moulin de Charlot restaurant brings together locals and travelers in a bucolic setting! Sit on the terrace at the water's edge, quench your thirst with a cold beer and treat yourself to generous, tasty, homemade cuisine that highlights local flavors.

Here, terminology is important. At Moulin de Charlot, we're not talking about taverns, but about beer gardens! But “what is a beer garden?” you might ask! Literally translated as “beer garden” in German, Biergarten refers to an outdoor dining venue, usually located in a garden or courtyard, where people can gather to enjoy, among other things, beer and often traditional German food. .

A beer garden in the middle of Gironde?

Having fallen under the spell of the Biergarten during numerous trips to Germany, the Chatin family naturally decided to take a bit of this atmosphere with them to their native land. Today, the Moulin de Charlot's beer menu breaks down borders by offering the Bavarian Paulaner, artisanal and local beers from the FOLIE de Lapouyade brewery but also, in a nod to the chef's origins, a few Corsican beers!

Sweet summer evenings to the sounds of music

Yes, this picture is already idyllic, but it's not over! Every summer, the Moulin de Charlot and its restaurant host meal concerts, during which specific menus are developed and soul, groove, folk, rock music groups... make you dance! These country evenings in the middle of the woods, lit by the light of the garlands, transform your visit to the Moulin de Charlot into an unforgettable event. Conviviality, good humor… what more could you ask for?

Join the Moulin de Charlot by train!

A scenic train journey

Steam or diesel, to each their own!

Travel through the landscapes of the region by boarding the tourist train in Guîtres which will take you directly to the Moulin de Charlot!

The old steam or diesel trains, rehabilitated by volunteers from the Association of Friends of the Vallée de l'Isle Railway which works for the conservation of railway heritage, take you on bucolic walks through the countryside and the forest. After a journey from the Libourne area, this is the terminus! A 45-minute stop at the Moulin de Charlot allows you to enjoy this idyllic setting, while manipulating the switches to allow the train to go in the opposite direction and bring you back to your starting point. Much more than a simple means of transport, the steam train is an experience in its own right. Its old-fashioned charm offers you, in addition to your journey, a journey out of time!

Special trains

Whether diesel or steam, different trains provide the shuttle and even offer some themed journeys throughout the year: at Halloween, for the Christmas holidays or on the occasion of the Western Country Festival organized in June in Marcenais !
